The FC Barcelona team underwent a generational change in the last summer transfer window as they signed the Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who is now set to be the Catalan side’s defender between the sticks for some years to come.

The Polish veteran, Wojciech Szczesny, who was signed in 2024, remains his deputy, but this situation leaves two other goalkeepers in quite a delicate position, i.e., Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Inaki Pena, who are both currently playing away from the club on loan.

Neither of the two goalies has a future at the Blaugrana club, which would look for their exit again this summer transfer window, either permanently or on loan.

In this context, Mundo Deportivo reports that the Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam are looking to strengthen their goalkeeping position with an experienced profile, and both Barcelona goalkeepers are on their shortlist.

The Amsterdam club’s technical director, Jordi Cruyff, is particularly keen on signing a high-profile goalkeeper this summer, and alongside Ter Stegen and Inaki Pena, Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Mark Flekken is also being monitored.

Meanwhile, the possible arrival of the Girona coach Michel to Ajax could also play a role in this operation, especially in Ter Stegen’s case, as the German goalkeeper is seen as a particularly attractive option for the Dutch side.

Barcelona, for their part, would be keen to find suitors for both goalkeepers as they continue reshaping their squad and wage structure ahead of next season. The Blaugranes are also exploring the market further despite Joan Garcia’s arrival, with Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro another player being looked at by the club.

For now, it remains to be seen how this situation develops, but Ajax’s interest could offer Barcelona a possible route to resolve the future of two goalkeepers who currently do not seem to be part of the club’s long-term plans.
