Two days on from airport comments that sparked controversy, 71-year-old Jorge Jesus has rowed back on remarks about Benfica target Marco Silva. According to Glorioso 1904, the coach used Instagram to clarify his position while on holiday in Portugal.
At Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport he had said Silva lacked experience at top clubs. His suggestion that Sporting were not a big club did not go down well at Alvalade.
In his social post, Jesus called Silva a coach of huge talent and praised his work. He added that Silva had coached Sporting, which he described as one of the best clubs in the world, and said he holds him in high regard.
Jesus is taking a short break after a demanding season in Saudi Arabia. In recent days he has said he will not continue at Al Nassr and that he has offers to return to European football.
As for Silva, he has reportedly met Fulham to discuss his future and also spoken with Benfica. Talks are said to be well advanced, and he could be close to succeeding José Mourinho at the helm of the red and whites.
