Jorge Jesus hits back over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal exit, says no apology required | OneFootball

Jorge Jesus dismissed the idea of apologising to Cristiano Ronaldo, insisting he had nothing to say sorry for and that squad choices are his alone. According to L'Équipe, the Portugal head coach underlined his control over selection.

Ronaldo left the camp on Wednesday, upset by limited minutes and by his coach's comments. Persistent questions about him dominated the gathering, and one from a CMTV journalist on Sunday prompted Jesus's outburst.

Portugal beat Denmark 4-2 on Thursday, then edged Norway 2-1 on Sunday. The window ended with four wins from four in the Nations League.

Jesus said the dispute began with the player's warm-up, that he took responsibility for the decision and events, yet he questioned why, and to whom, he should apologise. He added that selection is non-negotiable, and he neither seeks nor needs others' opinions.

Even so, he left the door open for Ronaldo to return.
