Rumours suggest the federation will need a new plan to replace the current national coach after the World Cup. Jorge Jesus, once among the favourites to succeed Roberto Martínez, now looks closer to a Fenerbahçe return.
Record writes that Jesus will leave Al Nassr at the end of the season after saying he will not renew with the Saudi club, where former Benfica prospect João Félix also plays. The report adds this was relayed to CEO José Semedo and sporting director Simão Coutinho.
At season’s end, he is set to meet Fenerbahçe in Lisbon, the club he led in 2022/23, lifting the Türkiye Cup. The Istanbul side are seeking a new manager after dismissing Domenico Tedesco.
If that scenario is confirmed, Jesus would return to Europe not to coach the national team but to take charge of Fenerbahçe. With the 71-year-old seemingly out of the frame, Pedro Proença and the FPF must identify a post-Roberto Martínez solution.
For now, the former Benfica coach is focused on two titles with Al Nassr. On Saturday afternoon he leads the Riyadh club in the Asian Champions 2 final against Gamba Osaka, then could secure another trophy by winning the Saudi league alongside João Félix and Cristiano Ronaldo.
