Jorge Jesus says he is not worried about any boos for João Palhinha at Alvalade when Portugal face Wales on 24 September. According to Glorioso 1904, the national coach insisted club allegiances will not shape his selections.
He has called up the holding midfielder for the 2026/27 Nations League fixtures. The former Sporting player, now linked with Benfica, returns to the ground in a context that promises added tension.
The 72-year-old underlined that he picks on form and quality only, not on whether a player is at Benfica or Sporting. He said he cannot answer for how supporters might react.
Palhinha is back with Portugal after missing the World Cup. Samuel Soares and Tomás Araújo are the other Benfica players named, alongside João Cancelo, Rúben Dias, Nuno Tavares, João Neves, Bernardo Silva, João Félix, Gonçalo Ramos and Fábio Silva.
Jesus will take charge for the first time at Estádio de Alvalade on 24 September against Wales. Trips to Norway on 27 September and Denmark on one October follow, before hosting Norway on four October to close his first camp.
