Jose Copete sat out Wednesday’s session, three days before Espanyol visit Mestalla on Saturday at 16:15, leaving Carlos Corberán short in defence.
According to AS, by midweek the only fit centre-back was Eray Cömert, who was left out of Sunday’s trip to Getafe with hamstring discomfort.
Copete is hopeful of being ready for Saturday. He took a knock at the Coliseum and the club’s medical staff kept him working with a rehabilitation coach rather than the group.
Corberán is still awaiting a centre-back reinforcement that has yet to arrive. Mouctar Diakhaby is out for the rest of the season and César Tárrega faces a two to three week absence.
The full-back picture is no brighter. Thierry Rendall is injured and José Luis Gayà is suspended for Espanyol’s visit.
Options include Foulquier and Jesús Vázquez, plus at least a place in the squad for academy players such as Iranzo or Panach. The fallback in central defence is the same solution used at Getafe, Pepelu.
