Jose Mourinho breaks his own Real Madrid record after perfect start to 2026/27 La Liga season | OneFootball

Jose Mourinho has already rewritten a small part of his Real Madrid history after guiding the club to three wins from their opening three La Liga matches of the 2026/27 season.

As such, the 4-0 victory over Malaga completed a perfect start for Mourinho in his second spell at the Santiago Bernabéu and, remarkably, it has taken him only nine days to establish a new personal benchmark in the league.

Mourinho had never previously won his first three La Liga matches as Real Madrid manager. 

However, that has now changed, with victories over Espanyol, Real Sociedad and Malaga giving him nine points from nine available.

Mourinho’s previous opening three-match records during his first stint as Real Madrid manager were nowhere near perfect.

He collected seven points from his first three league games in 2010/11 after drawing with Mallorca before beating Osasuna and Real Sociedad. 

Although he did not win his first three league matches in 2010, the Portuguese coach responded by taking Madrid on a remarkable 12-match unbeaten run. 

That sequence included 10 victories and two draws, with their first La Liga defeat eventually arriving against Barcelona at Camp Nou towards the end of November.

The following season brought six points from victories against Zaragoza and Getafe, separated by a defeat to Levante.

Furthermore, his 2012/13 campaign began even more slowly, with four points from a draw against Valencia, a defeat at Getafe and a victory over Granada.

This time, there has been no dropped point.

Up next, Mourinho needs three more consecutive league victories to match the six-game winning start achieved by Xabi Alonso at the beginning of his Madrid tenure. 

Beyond that, there is also the five-match sequence with which Arbeloa began his spell in charge after taking over in January.

For now, however, Mourinho can enjoy a start that has already improved on his previous opening records. 

Three matches have produced nine points, a perfect defensive record in the latest victory and early evidence that Real Madrid have adapted quickly to their new manager.
