Soon-to-be Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has told the club to sign West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes if Aurelien Tchouameni leaves, according to journalist Ramon Alvarez.

West Ham are expected to sell several players this summer after dropping into the Championship.

Fernandes is one of the Hammers stars set to leave, and Madrid have joined other suitors in the race to sign him.

West Ham have told Arsenal and Manchester United that signing the former Southampton star will cost up to £80 million.

Paris Saint-Germain are also one of his admirers, but moving to Madrid could be more appealing because of Mourinho.

However, any move will depend on Tchouameni’s future, and other suitors will continue to monitor the situation.

He will look to impress at the World Cup and attract more big clubs, which will be music to the Hammers’ ears.

They want a big fee for the 21-year-old and will be happy if a solid campaign at the summer tournament drives up his value.

Fernandes was one of the best players at the club during the season, weighing in with three goals and four assists in 36 league appearances.

He has done more than enough to justify a move, and he will be keen to join a club that guarantees regular playing opportunities.

Arsenal, Man United, Madrid and PSG are all playing in the Champions League next season. However, United were some way off challenging for the Premier League title.

Fernandes will factor that in before making a move, and he has to get the decision right following back-to-back relegations from the top flight.
