According to L'Équipe, Benfica coach José Mourinho was visibly moved, appearing close to tears, as Estadio da Luz honoured his former assistant Silvino Louro before Saturday's meeting with Vitoria Guimaraes.

A minute's applause preceded kick-off, and Benfica won 3-0.

Louro, a Portugal international with 23 caps, played for Guimaraes from 1982 to 1984 and for Benfica from 1984 to 1994.

He later became one of Mourinho's principal lieutenants, working as his goalkeeping coach from 2002 to 2018.

Their partnership covered Porto, 2002-2004, Chelsea, 2004-2007 and 2013-2015, Inter Milan, 2008-2010, Real Madrid, 2010-2013, and Manchester United, 2016-2018.
