Jose Mourinho ‘not angry’ after missing out on top midfield target, has full confidence on current squad | OneFootball

Real Madrid are now out of the race for Rodri, and it seems set that the club will not make any new midfield signings this summer beyond Bernardo Silva.

There were rumours that Jose Mourinho was pushing for a new defensive midfield signing, and Los Blancos saw the Manchester City star as the ideal candidate.

Rodri, however, preferred to join Barcelona and is very close to completing the move to Catalonia as matters stand. Moreover, he is said to have personally informed the Real Madrid administration of his decision out of respect.

Mourinho’s stance on the rejection

Earlier this week, multiple reports suggested that Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho was infuriated by the club missing out on his top midfield target, especially given how the midfield has been Real Madrid’s biggest weakness in recent times.

Ben Fernandes Santos, however, reveals that the real situation is far from the tension being suggested. In fact, Mourinho is reportedly not angry about how the Rodri saga unfolded.

There is no doubt that the coach would have gladly taken the Manchester City star in his plans, but it could not be done and the matter is closed. He is not angry on the board.

Confidence in the squad

The journalist further adds that Mourinho currently has total confidence in the existing players and that he is ready to use the stars he currently has at his disposal.

He will test several of the recently returned players in the preseason friendly against Ferencvaros tomorrow, and hopes to get a feel of the profiles he has at his disposal.

In any case, Mourinho is genuinely excited about what’s ahead and knows he can achieve great things with the current Real Madrid cohort. He believes he has the team to win him the biggest titles.

In recent hours, there have been suggestions that the coach plans to use Bernardo Silva in the double pivot after the Rodri operation fell apart, and there is a good chance the Portuguese star will be tested in that role in the coming days.

Should Silva work out alongside Aurelien Tchouameni, Real Madrid will have solved their biggest problem on the field.
