After a 3-1 win at Estoril, Benfica have ended their season, and José Mourinho is understood to have ordered the Seixal base to close, with the squad starting holidays except those targeting the World Cup.

O Jogo reports that the club drew a line under the campaign after missing next season’s Champions League, their first absence since 2008/09 under Quique Flores.

Mourinho is said to have relayed the decision in the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota dressing room, where he was seen saying goodbye to players, prompting speculation in the national press.

Not everyone departs now, with Dedic and Lukebakio already World Cup bound, and others awaiting final calls, including Otamendi, Prestianni, António Silva and Tomás Araújo.

The 3-1 result sealed third place on 80 points. With Sporting beating Gil Vicente, Benfica missed the Champions League and will enter the Europa League.
