Jose Mourinho has checked on Raul Asencio following the Real Madrid defender’s successful surgery, with the centre-back now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Asencio underwent an operation to correct a stress fracture in his right tibia, a problem he had been carrying since January. The procedure went as planned, and the defender will now begin his rehabilitation.
His return is expected to take between two and three months, although Real Madrid may have to wait until 2027 to see him back in competitive action.
A return around Christmas remains a possibility if his recovery progresses quickly, although it is not officially confirmed.

“Jose Mourinho visited Raul Asencio at the hospital after his surgery.
“Our manager inquired about the condition of the Real Madrid defender, who underwent successful surgery for a stress fracture in his right tibia,” read the official statement from the club.
The injury has been a long-running problem for Asencio. He initially attempted to recover through conservative treatment, but that approach ultimately failed to resolve the fracture.
Hence, surgery has now provided a definitive solution, although it comes with the cost of a significant period away from the team.
The timing of this event is quite frustrating for Asencio after an interrupted start to life under Mourinho.

He began pre-season with the manager but suffered a muscular injury towards the end of July. That problem kept him out until September, when he returned to the squad for the meeting with Rayo Vallecano.
Asencio did not feature in that game and subsequently remained an unused substitute in Real Madrid’s next three matches.
He had been one of the few centre-backs available to Mourinho during the international break, but had yet to make a competitive appearance this season.
That opportunity has now disappeared for the foreseeable future, as Asencio’s focus will be rehabilitation, with Real Madrid hoping the operation finally puts an end to the injury that has followed him for much of the year.
