Jose Sa has received a surprise nomination for the Premier League goalkeeper performance of the season after his heroics in Wolves’ goalless draw at Nottingham Forest.

ExpressAndStar.com reports that the Portugal international looks set to leave this summer, having made 170 starts in five years since arriving from Olympiakos.

Forest produced 35 chances and Sa made 10 saves, including a brilliant goal-line stop to deny Morato, to secure a point.

Public voting will be combined with an expert panel, with a winner named next week. Sa is up against Everton’s Jordan Pickford, Sunderland’s Robin Roefs, Burnley’s Martin Dubravka, Tottenham’s Vicario and Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez.

Wolves were relegated last month after eight years in the Premier League, finishing with draws against Fulham and Burnley as several players said their goodbyes at Turf Moor.

The side spent the entire campaign in the bottom three. Sa’s Forest display paved the way for his former boss Vitor Pereira to take that job, with Sean Dyche dismissed after the stalemate.

It is widely accepted he will move on, after January links to Forest and strong reports of Besiktas interest. He remains under contract until next summer.

Sa has said he will miss people at the club and that playing on with relegation looming was difficult, though the team had to give their maximum. He is now preparing for the World Cup as a back-up in Roberto Martinez’s squad.
