Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has provided an explanation for his decision to leave Arda Güler out of his starting line-up for the club’s latest outing.
Midfielder Arda has taken his place centre stage in the headlines in Spain’s capital for the latest occasion over the last 24 hours.
Introduced off the bench during Real’s La Liga meeting with Rayo Vallecano, the Turkish international completely changed the dynamic of the game, carving out goalscoring chances at will and ultimately laying on the assist for Kylian Mbappé’s 2nd of the evening.
This continued what has been a superb opening to the new campaign all told on Arda’s part.
And yet, in two of his side’s five league fixtures to date, the 21-year-old has been forced to make do with a role as a substitute.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of Real Madrid’s dominant victory on Saturday, the aforementioned José Mourinho was therefore drawn on Arda’s uncertain status as first-choice.
And the Portuguese tactician went on to explain:
“Arda Güler on the bench? I’m 100% sure if I had left Diomandé on the bench, you would have asked the same! We have a lot of quality on the bench. They can’t start all together.”
