Queens Park Rangers will be hoping that manager Marti Cifuentes will still be at the club come the start of the 2024/24 Championship season.

The Spaniard arrived at the club earlier last season relatively unknown, but it soon became clear that he was a very impressive coach, as he ended up doing a fantastic job keeping the Rs in the second tier.

That has put him on the radar of other clubs, with Burnley being one side that admires the job he has done in West London.

But QPR will be hoping Cifuentes remains committed to them as they look to drastically improve on their 18th-place finish in the 2023/24 campaign.

To do just that, it is expected that the Rs will be busy in the summer transfer window as Cifuentes looks to mould the team into how he wants them to play.

With that said, here at Football League World, we have looked at a QPR dream XI for next season, which includes some realistic signings…

GK: Arthur Okonkwo

QPR could potentially be about to lose goalkeeper Asmir Begovic this summer, as his contract comes to an end this month and teams such as West Ham and Newcastle are eyeing a deal.

The Rs may find it hard to convince the shotstopper to sign a new contract, so if that is the case, they will need to find a suitable replacement, and Arthur Okonkwo could be the ideal target.

The 22-year-old has just finished an excellent season on loan at Wrexham, where he kept 14 clean sheets in 36 League Two games.

Okonkwo really impressed with the Red Dragons, and while they may be looking to re-sign the player, QPR should swoop in and secure a deal.

The goalkeeper is set to become a free agent at the end of the month after being released by Arsenal; therefore, he could be a cost-effective signing.

RB: Reggie Cannon

The Rs brought Reggie Cannon to the club in September last year as he was a free agent after leaving Portuguese side Boavista.

This was the 25-year-old’s first taste of English football, and he did rather well in the 21 games he played in the league.

Cannon was a firm fixture under Cifuentes, and that will likely continue heading into the new season.

CB: Jimmy Dunne

QPR announced that Jimmy Dunne’s contract had been extended following there decision to trigger the option in his contract.

The 26-year-old will continue in a QPR shirt until the end of next season, and that will likely mean he will continue playing at the heart of the team’s defence.

Dunne was an important figure for the Rs in the 2023/24 campaign, and with money potentially tight, Cifuentes may look to keep him in his side for the next season.

CB: Jake Clarke-Salter

Partnering Dunne at centre-back will likely be Jake Clarke-Salter, if he does remain at the club.

The centre-back has been linked with teams such as Stoke City, Burnley, Wolves, and Crystal Palace.

He will be someone that QPR and the manager would ideally like to keep hold of as they try and improve on this seasons’ standings.

The 26-year-old played 33 times in the league this season, and in this dream XI, Cifuentes will probably want to call upon the player once again.

LB: Kenneth Paal

Kenneth Paal more or less made the left-back slot his own last season, as he missed just two league games in the entire season.

As well as contributing to defence, Paal was also mightily impressive in attack, as he scored four goals and recorded a single assist.

The 26-year-old has done rather well since joining the club in 2022, and in this scenario, he would likely keep his spot at left-back under Cifuentes.

CM: Sam Field

Sam Field is another impressive figure from the 2023/24 campaign for the Rs, as he played in 43 of their 46 league games.

The 26-year-old started 39 of those games, proving he was seen as important under Cifuentes, and that will likely be the same in the new campaign.

Field’s ability on the ball, with his composure and awareness, makes him a key contributor in the midfield department, while he also helps protect the defence with his ability to win tackles and intercept the ball.

He signed a new contract earlier this year, and that will likely mean he keeps playing for the club in the short term.

CM: Louie Sibley

There were several midfielders who partnered Field in the 2023/24 campaign, with them all struggling to nail down a regular spot.

Therefore, Cifuentes could look to change this and add a player like Louie Sibley to his ranks.

The 22-year-old is out of contract at Derby County this month, and with his future up in the air, the Rs could look to swoop in and offer the player a contract.

Sibley would be a welcome addition, as he’s shown in a Rams shirt that he has an eye for goal but can also be important in creating chances. Furthermore, he showed this season that he can be very versatile at where he plays, making him an even better addition to a team like QPR.

RW: Josh Murphy

Josh Murphy has just finished an amazing season with Oxford United, and it appears that several Championship clubs are now looking to sign the winger.

Murphy becomes a free agent this summer if a new deal isn’t agreed upon with the Us and QPR are among the teams that are said to be interested in him.

The 29-year-old scored six goals and chipped in with five assists in the regular League One season, with him adding another two goals in the play-offs.

The winger was important in Oxford’s attack, and given his experience in the Championship before now, he would be a welcome addition for a team like QPR.

CAM: Ilias Chair

As well as looking to sign players for key positions, QPR would be delighted if they got to the first game of the 2024/25 season and Ilias Chair is still at the club.

The Moroccan international has been so imperative to the club for a number of seasons now, and every time a transfer window comes around, the club will have been bracing themselves for interest in the player.

Cifuentes will not want to lose one of his key attacking players over this summer period, so as well as adding new players to the group, a dream XI for QPR would also include Chair remaining with them.

LW: Jesurun Rak-Sakyi

Article image:Josh Murphy in: QPR's dream XI for next season ft 5 realistic signings

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi will likely be wanted by a host of teams this summer, as the 2023/24 campaign didn’t go well for the player.

The winger spent most of the season on the sidelines, either through injury or because of competition for places.

A loan seems like the likely outcome this summer, and QPR should be very keen to win the race, as he would be a fantastic addition for their team.

The Rs look set to lose Chris Willock, so a replacement will be needed, and given his flair, creativity, and eye for goal, Rak-Sakyi would be the perfect addition.

ST: Kayden Jackson

Article image:Josh Murphy in: QPR's dream XI for next season ft 5 realistic signings

QPR have struggled for goals for some time now, with players like Lyndon Dykes and Sinclair Armstrong struggling to be a constant threat in front of goal.

Therefore, this summer would be a chance for the West London side to bring in a new centre-forward, and Kayden Jackson could be the answer.

It has just been announced that Ipswich Town are letting the striker leave when his contract expires at the end of the month, and QPR should be looking to take advantage of that.

The forward has struggled for regular game time in recent seasons, but when he has played, he has still impressed in terms of his contribution in front of goal.

Jackson is getting on a bit at 30, but he has shown he can be a threat at the top end of the pitch in terms of goals and creativity.
