Norwich forward Josh Sargent has offered his thoughts on the Canaries play-off chances after last weekend’s victory over Stoke City.
Norwich City forward Josh Sargent believes his side have enough quality to squeeze into the play-off places by the end of the season, but insists they need to find a level of consistency to make it happen.
The Canaries produced a dominant display in a 4-2 victory over Stoke City last weekend at Carrow Road, with a brace from Sargent, along with strikes from loanee Lewis Dobbin and an own goal from Junior Tchamadeu, sealing all three points and lifting the East Anglian outfit into 10th in the second tier table.
Johannes Hoff Thorup’s men now sit only four points away from the top six, and have a glorious chance to close the gap when they meet promotion rivals Blackburn Rovers this weekend.
American international Sargent has hit the ground running once again in the Championship after a lengthy spell away with a groin injury, netting seven times in eight league games upon his return.
A return for the marksman is sure to bolster Norwich’s promotion ambitions incredibly, with a regular source of goals secured at the top end of the pitch to give the team every chance of winning games most weeks.
Now Sargent has offered his thoughts on where the side is at, and what they can do to get ahead of the play-off chasing pack.
As reported by Pink Un, Norwich City frontman Josh Sargent believes the team does possess enough talent to earn a top six place, but they must string consistent results together for the final 12 games of the term.
Sargent said: "I just want us to keep putting together results and make a good push for the play-offs because I do think we're good enough.
"I do think we have the quality. We just need to limit those mistakes and bad games and stay consistent with what we're good at.
“Everybody knows how this league is. If you string together a few wins, then you're right back in the picture, so that's our goal. We have games where we can do that right now. We just need to stay focused and keep putting together performances like we did today."
Reflecting on his goalscoring contributions, Sargent added: "There were moments last year also where I was scoring a lot of goals," the American international said after City's victory over Stoke. "I'm very happy, obviously. I'm even happier that the team won the game.
"I need to just stay focused on what's put me in those positions to score, not getting too lazy, keeping working hard for the team, and getting in the right spots to score goals.
"The midfield, defenders, everybody, there's good quality in this team. It's just about limiting those mistakes and those lazy passes, because we have a lot of quality."
Prior to their victory over Stoke, Norwich had slipped up and dropped points against a number of sides that they were expected to cruise past on paper.
Draws to the likes of relegation-threatened Hull City and Derby County were disappointing, while a home defeat to Preston North End further highlighted the recent struggles the Canaries have had.
A much-needed three points over the Potters can hopefully be the turning point, but those previous results cannot happen between now and the end of the season if they want to cement a play-off place.
