Josh Windass has posted a message to Sheffield Wednesday supporters
Sheffield Wednesday are preparing for life in League One after a disastrous campaign on and off the pitch.
Henrik Pedersen’s side finished bottom of the Championship table, with the team having their relegation confirmed as early as February.
The Owls ended the term with zero points as a result of a combined 18 points deduction they received from the EFL for going into administration in October, as well as breaching their financial rules.
New owners Arise Capital were installed in May, and the group led by David Storch will now be hoping to start the rebuilding process at Hillsborough.
Sheffield Wednesday will be keen to gain promotion from League One at the earliest possible opportunity.
But they are still feeling the absences of key players like Josh Windass and Barry Bannan, who left the club over the last 12 months.

Windass has sent a three-word message to Sheffield Wednesday supporters as he reminisces on his time with the club.
The forward has posted an image on his Instagram stories of him and his former teammates celebrating their penalty shootout win over Peterborough United in the League One play-offs from 2023, along with the caption: “What a time.”
Sheffield Wednesday lost the first leg meeting away to the Posh 4-0, but were able to level the scores with a 5-1 win at Hillsborough in the second leg, which led to the shootout after 120 minutes of action.
The Yorkshire outfit were triumphant, with Darren Moore’s side earning a trip to Wembley Stadium, where they went on to clinch promotion to the Championship with a 1-0 victory against Barnsley.
It was Windass who scored in stoppage time of extra time to seal the victory against the Tykes, ending the club’s two season stint in the third tier.
The 32-year-old spent two more campaigns at Hillsborough, helping the team come 20th and 12th in the table, before departing last summer as a free agent.
His contract with the Yorkshire outfit was mutually terminated amid their financial turmoil, which led to Windass’ switch to Wrexham.
The playmaker contributed 16 goals and five assists from 41 appearances in the Championship for the Red Dragons, with Phil Parkinson’s side narrowly missing out on a play-off place.
The Welsh outfit finished seventh in the table, two points behind sixth place Hull City.

The manner of Windass’ exit from Sheffield Wednesday was quite disappointing for supporters, even if the financial issues made it understandable.
However, his time at Hillsborough will still be well remembered by supporters, particularly for his role in their promotion in 2023, and his winner at Wembley.
While he has enjoyed a strong campaign at Wrexham, a return to Sheffield Wednesday at some point would be more than welcome.
It remains to be seen whether he would be open to a move back to League One, but perhaps if the club can gain promotion next season then that might open the door for a return to the club for the final years of his career.
