Josmar, 17, has been named in Flamengo’s squad for the first time and, according to Globo.com, will back up Pedro in Sunday’s Brasileirão round-25 derby with Botafogo at the Maracanã, kick-off 16:00.

The suspension of Bruno Henrique and the exits of Wallace Yan and Plata opened the door. Recife-born, he impressed at Avaí before Flamengo paid R$ 3.5 million this year to place him in the under-20s.

Coach Gabriel Pelozato moved him from midfield to centre-forward for his power, endurance and crisp finishing. Left-footed, he is mainly central but can play wide or as a second striker. Earlier stints included left-back at Grêmio and midfield at Avaí, then a successful false-nine test fixed the change.

For Flamengo’s youth side he was a starter during their under-20 Libertadores runner-up campaign. He has 14 goals and one assist in 28 appearances.

He scored in the first three rounds of the under-20 Carioca, in 3-1 wins over Portuguesa and Nova Iguaçu and a 1-0 victory against Boavista. In November he became the youngest scorer of the Série B points era. The move aligns with a club plan to invest in players aged 15 to 18 for quicker first-team pathways.
