Journalist confirms ‘weird’ Liverpool approach for surprise Premier League signing

Liverpool made a "serious enquiry" for Leeds United's Jayden Bogle in January

After Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley both got ruled out for an extended period in January, Liverpool's fans were demanding that Richard Hughes and Slot entered the market for some reinforcements.

The transfer of Lutsharel Geertruida was the closest to completion but, in the end, a deal couldn't be agreed upon.

This resulted in Liverpool failing to add any new faces to their ranks and left them massively lacking in depth.

However, the Dutchman seemingly wasn't the only right-back Liverpool were close to signing.

That is, according to a report from journalist Dave Davies who said the following about Liverpool's interest in Leeds United's Jayden Bogle.

"This is a weird one, and my gut is telling me that Liverpool don’t revisit this, but Liverpool did make a serious enquiry for Jayden Bogle," he said.

“Does it mean that they will go back for him in the summer? We don’t know, but I’m struggling to see it.”

Liverpool need to find a better solution than Jayden Bogle in the summer transfer window

Although Bogle has a decent amount of Premier League experience, the right-back is not among the elite level of players that Liverpool should be looking at.

Indeed, a move for the Englishman was likely just explored as a last-ditch option but the fact that a "serious enquiry" was made by Liverpool is slightly concerning.

He may be one of Leeds' starting defenders but it's clear that, once Frimpong and Bradley had returned from injury, the defender would be sent to the reserves and wouldn't ever get a look in.

If the Reds are wanting to improve their depth at right-back in the summer, they must ensure that their transfer targets are at the same level as their current crop of players.

They also need to start looking for players with plenty of versatility in case another wave of injuries hits L4 next term, otherwise, they could end up in the same position that they currently find themselves in.
