From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this all sounds uncomfortably familiar. Everyone can see what the issue is. We’ve lost Salah, Ekitike is out for a long spell, and the report still talks about Liverpool “weighing up options”. We do not need another summer of admiration, monitoring and considering. We need signings.

Barcola would be a serious statement, absolutely the sort of player who could excite the crowd and terrify defenders, but if Liverpool know he is the one they “would love to add”, then get on with it or move decisively to the next target. This club has already been burnt too often by letting situations drift while rivals act.

It is good news that Szoboszlai has signed a new deal, and Iraola saying he wants to keep Curtis Jones matters, but supporters will judge this window on whether Liverpool fix the attack properly. “Absolutely” needing players should set the tone. That means more than one forward, proper depth, and a right-sided defender too.

There is a new head coach in the building and a chance to reset the mood after a dreadful decline. Give him the tools. Liverpool should never go into a season hoping to patch over obvious gaps. The club knows what is needed, now it has to prove it can still move like a major power in the market.
