Report: Liverpool’s Omar Marmoush Interest Likely to Wait Until 2025

Liverpool fans have been eager for potential reinforcements in the January transfer window, especially after a relatively quiet summer saw Federico Chiesa as their only significant acquisition. While manager Arne Slot has successfully pushed Liverpool into a strong Premier League title challenge, speculation about Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush as a possible addition has gained momentum.

German journalist Christian Falk has provided insight into the situation, suggesting that a move for Marmoush to Anfield is unlikely this winter, despite the player’s stellar form and his personal aspirations of succeeding Mohamed Salah.

Marmoush’s Exceptional Start to the Season

Omar Marmoush has emerged as one of the standout performers in Europe this season. The Egyptian forward boasts an impressive tally of 14 goals and 10 assists in just 16 appearances, making him one of only two players in Europe’s top five leagues to achieve double figures in both categories. The other is none other than Mohamed Salah.

Falk, writing for The Daily Briefing, elaborated on Marmoush’s strong connection with Liverpool. “It should be remembered that there’s a big link between Marmoush and Liverpool,” he noted. “It would be a big dream for the player to move to Anfield, especially because of the presence of Mohamed Salah.”

The allure of representing his compatriot’s club clearly resonates with Marmoush. “He would love to be Salah’s successor should his compatriot leave the club – it would mean a lot in his home country,” added Falk.

Why Liverpool May Delay Their Move

While Marmoush’s desire to join Liverpool is evident, Falk reported that “initial talks have already taken place with the Reds over a 2025 move.” However, Marmoush is committed to remaining at Frankfurt until the summer.

From Liverpool’s perspective, a move for the striker mid-season may not be the priority. Despite Diogo Jota’s and Chiesa’s current fitness issues, both players are expected to return soon. Their presence, alongside Salah, Darwin Núñez, Luis Díaz, and Cody Gakpo, ensures ample depth in attack.

Instead, Liverpool may be better served targeting a midfielder to bolster their squad. The Reds continue to be linked with Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad, whose defensive capabilities and tactical awareness could add much-needed balance to their midfield.

Marmoush’s Long-Term Potential

Despite the immediate focus elsewhere, Marmoush remains an intriguing prospect for Liverpool. At just 25, his rapid development and goal contributions have highlighted his ability to thrive at the highest level. His versatility and directness could make him a valuable addition to Liverpool’s evolving squad, particularly if Salah departs in the next few years.

For now, however, it appears any move for Marmoush will have to wait until the summer. The striker’s ambition to wear the red of Liverpool remains undiminished, and his stock is only likely to rise further as the season progresses.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

As Liverpool supporters, the idea of Omar Marmoush as a future addition is both exciting and practical. His current form suggests he could be a star in the making, and the connection with Salah adds a layer of sentimental appeal. However, the timing of such a move raises valid questions.

January’s priority should be addressing areas of immediate need. A high-calibre midfielder like Zubimendi could help provide greater control in matches where Liverpool have been overrun in the middle of the park. While the attack has flourished, the midfield has occasionally looked stretched, particularly against high-pressing sides.

Marmoush’s signing would likely make more sense in the summer when Liverpool can reassess their squad composition more comprehensively. By then, the futures of key players like Salah may become clearer, and Marmoush could be the ideal successor. Until then, fans should trust in Slot’s approach, which has already delivered encouraging results this season.
