Chelsea are considering loaning goalkeeper Mike Penders to Strasbourg, which could have an impact on the structure of Mathis Amougou’s move according to reports.
Penders is currently part of the Chelsea’s squad at the Club World Cup, but has yet to feature for the Blues at the competition.
Chelsea are believed to have high hopes for Penders who they signed last summer for €20m from Belgian side Genk.
Penders remained in Belgium with Genk last season, but the Blues now face a difficult decision in deciding what the next step should be for the teenager’s development.
Chelsea reportedly don’t want Penders spending three consecutive years on loan as they are keen to avoid a repeat of what happened with Thibaut Courtois.
Penders is said to have impressed in training whilst out in America, and it appears the Blues seem to view him as their long term number one.
Penders signed for Chelsea last summer.
The youngster won’t be returning to Belgium, but journalist Sacha Tavolieri has provided an update on his future.
He took to X.com and said:
“Chelsea FC considering the loan of Mike Penders to Racing Strasbourg this summer.
“Internal discussions still need to take place within BlueCo to free up spots among loaned players at #RCSA.
“This situation could also impact the structure of the deal for Mathis Amougou’s move to La Meinau. More to come.”
Chelsea can send three players to Strasbourg, with Kendry Paez and Amougou believed to be two of them, whilst the third spot is currently open.

However, from what Tavolieri is saying Chelsea could potentially look to sell Amougou to Strasbourg, despite only signing him in January from St Etienne, in order to keep one space free.
A season at Strasbourg can really help develop players and get them ready for Chelsea like with Andrey Santos, so it’s important Chelsea make the right decision.
