JP apologised for his dismissal in Vasco’s 2-1 home defeat to Audax Italiano at São Januário, but described the refereeing as unjust.
The player said in a post that he was sorry to supporters, team-mates and staff, accepted the red had a direct impact on the match and took responsibility, while maintaining the decision was unfair.
In the first half, as he attempted a shot, JP caught the sole of Mateos. Play continued before referee Hernan Heras of Uruguay was called by compatriot VAR Diego Dunajec to review a possible red card. Heras decided on a yellow.
On 35 minutes, JP received a second yellow in a passage where he had been fouled, and was sent off.
He added that he is living a special moment in his career, is grateful to represent Vasco, will lift his head, learn from the incident and work even harder, stressing the group will stay united.
