Argentina have called up Juan Foyth for their upcoming fixtures despite the Villarreal defender still recovering from muscular problems.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Villarreal trained on Wednesday at Miralcamp with Foyth the only absentee. He continues to work separately after problems sustained against Alavés at Mendizorroza.

Argentina are due to face Bolivia on 30 September, Burkina Faso on three October and Benin on six October.

The Argentine centre-back was not at the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada as he was returning from a serious Achilles injury. He did play at the 2022 tournament, lifting the trophy in Qatar.

The final game, against Benin on six October, is designated as the farewell of Leo Messi with Argentina, which will make it a historic night for Argentine football.
