After a promising campaign under the rookie Anglo-Belgian manager Will Still, Reims will be hoping to continue their shrewd transfer business this summer by bringing in reinforcements across the frontline to kick on next season.
One of these is set to be Salzburg forward Oumar Diakité to replace Arsenal loanee Folarin Balogun, with the Champagne side looking to replace the American international’s 21 goals this season with two players in the same position.
According to L’Équipe, another priority is bringing in a player that would be able to emerge as a consistent starter on the left wing, with neither of this season’s options (Mitchell van Bergen, Alexis Flips, Myziane Maolida) holding down the spot for long.
Reims had looked at Southampton’s Moussa Djenepo and Mechelen’s Nikola Storm back in the winter transfer window, while Argentinian youth international Juan Gauto is being looked at. The winger, who just turned 19, recently took part in Argentina’s U20 World Cup campaign. At club level, he has regularly played for Huracán this season scoring once and assisting four times for the low-lying Buenos Aires-based outfit.
L’Équipe add that Reims are also targeting a defensive midfielder, given Dion Lopy has been the subject of offers from England and Azor Matusiwa will be allowed to leave if the right offer comes in for the Dutchman.
