Juan Mata is to become a shareholder at Melbourne Victory, with the stake to take effect once his playing career ends. The club said in a statement that the 38-year-old winger is still considering whether to play one more professional season.
Mata has been with Victory since 2025. The former Spain international has 40 caps and 10 goals.
Alongside the equity, he will take a role within the club’s structure. He is set to chair a newly created committee, with its purpose and objectives yet to be defined.
He enjoyed the season on the pitch and regards becoming a Victory shareholder as the logical next step.
The move forms part of his gradual preparation for retirement.
