Julen Agirrezabala is enjoying a very different campaign to the one he endured at Mestalla. Now first-choice for newly promoted Racing de Santander after joining this summer, the Basque goalkeeper is looking to re-establish himself after a bitter Valencia spell.
After Racing's trip to Getafe on Sunday, El Día Después de Movistar reported that he told David Soria he had a terrible time in Valencia last season, with injuries denying him minutes across the final five months of the campaign.
Soria empathised, saying he knows the strain of uncertain game time and the pressure of being away from home for the first time, before concluding that what matters is staying calm and working well.
Agirrezabala's Valencia stint began brightly but faded. He was undisputed starter in the first part of 25/26, playing 19 matches and conceding 30 goals, before a hamstring issue halted his momentum at Mestalla.
A meniscus tear then wrecked hopes of regaining the shirt. Although he was available for the final five league games, Stole Dimitrievski's form from January ended any debate over the goalkeeping spot.
