After delivering a commanding performance for Atlético Madrid against Tottenham in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, Julián Álvarez continues to fuel speculation about his future. Questioned about a potential transfer to FC Barcelona, the Argentine striker sought to play down the rumors while leaving some uncertainty hanging over the next chapter of his career.

The 25-year-old insists he has had no contact with the Catalan club.

"I am very happy here, I have never said anything about 'Barcelona'! This whole story has turned into quite a mess because of the comments, but I really feel good here," he explained, brushing aside the speculation spread over the past few months by various media outlets.

But Álvarez hasn't completely closed the door on a change of direction.

"Will I still be here next year? I don't know, maybe yes, maybe no. For now, I'm happy," he admitted.

A statement that looks like a subtle wink to FC Barcelona, even though internally, the Blaugrana board keeps repeating that no move will be considered without reasonable financial terms.
