Julián Álvarez trains as usual with Atlético, no rebellion or mutiny | OneFootball

Julián Álvarez trained under Diego Pablo Simeone and was simply one of the group. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he neither refused to train, nor skipped the session, nor demanded a post-training meeting with the coach.

He greeted the manager at the start, then joined the rest of the squad and worked normally. Training began at 9.00 with more media than usual, and Simeone split the squad into groups for physical work.

Álvarez started alongside Koke, Lemar, Grimaldo, Baena, Giuliano, Llorente and Pubill. On the adjacent pitch, the rest of the party that returned from the Korea tour worked in two groups. The only absentee was Sortloh, sidelined by muscle discomfort, who will miss Atlético’s league opener.

A training match followed to prepare for Friday’s friendly against Olympique de Marsella. Initially Álvarez was with the substitutes, while the other side lined up in defence with Domínguez, the 16-year-old who has started every pre-season game, Le Normand, Hancko and Grimaldo, one of the new arrivals.

Giuliano was also involved, allowing wing-backs and three centre-backs, with Koke and Barrios in midfield and an attack of Kang-in Lee, Arnau and Lookman.

The substitutes, the players with the least pre-season workload, featured Llorente, Pubill, Giménez and Dani Martínez at the back with Hjulmand and Cardoso ahead, Carlos Martín in Giuliano’s role and, further forward, Baena, Lemar and Julián Álvarez.

The session passed without incident, and Simeone is counting on Álvarez to be the franchise player after Griezmann’s move to MLS.
