Much to the surprise of VfB Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß, Angelo Stiller was left out of Germany's squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

At a press conference on Monday, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann was asked about the decision to leave the Stuttgart midfielder out of his squad and revealed he had spoken with both Stiller and Hoeneß.

“I had a very good conversation with Angelo and [VfB Stuttgart coach] Sebastian [Hoeneß]. I have to explain my decision to the player, not necessarily to the coach. But was happy to do so in this case because I have a good connection with Sebastian,” said Nagelsmann.

“I told him that I am in no way angry about his comments. What else could they say? He’s their player and a very important player for VfB,” he continued.

“His development is clearly heading in the right direction. I also told him that he is having a significantly more stable season now than in the four weeks before the October international break.”

Nagelsmann added that he opted for Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha and Bayern Munich's Aleksandar Pavlovic this time because he feels they are “a little ahead at the moment”.
