Julian Nagelsmann has stepped down as Germany head coach, Bild and Sky Germany report this morning.

The 38-year-old is understood to have left his post after three years in charge, following Germany’s Round of 32 World Cup exit to Paraguay on penalties.

Speculation had intensified in recent days that the German Football Association (DFB) urged him to leave, and those reports now indicate he has departed, with an official announcement expected shortly.

Former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is viewed as the leading candidate to succeed Nagelsmann.

Reports suggest Klopp has a verbal release clause in his RB Leipzig contract that would allow him to depart should the DFB make an approach.
