Julian Weigl (29) will miss Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Bundesliga clash against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday afternoon unless he commits his future to the club. Bild report that despite training, the defensive-midfielder will not be a part of the squad as Gerardo Seoane demands focus from his players, with Al-Shabab and Al-Qadisiyah in discussions to sign Weigl.
It’s reported that die Fohlen hope to receive between €10m and €15m for Weigl, although Al-Shabab would rather sign the German midfielder on loan, which Gladbach have no intention of doing. The 29-year-old has a contract until 2028 and so the Bundesliga side hold all the cards when it comes to negotiating the player’s future.
Leeds United have also shown interest in signing Weigl and Bild note that should he leave, then they will likely enter the market for a replacement as Rocco Reitz, Philipp Sander, Jens Castrop and Oscar Fraulo don’t offer cover in the No. 6 role. As we enter the closing stages of the transfer window, it could be a busy one for Borussia Mönchengladbach with Jonas Omlin also interesting clubs.
