Manchester United have wasted no time responding to a stunning claim made by the agent of former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp’s agent’s claim

Klopp has been out of football management since he parted ways with Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season.

He announced his plans to leave Anfield in January 2024, claiming that he had run out of energy. He won six trophies with the Merseyside club, including the Premier League and Champions League.

Now working within the Red Bull group, the German has been frequently linked with a return to management at various European clubs. However, he has consistently dismissed the speculation, maintaining that he has no desire to return to the dugout following his nine-year spell at Liverpool.

Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, spoke to Transfermarkt and revealed that United were one of the clubs that tried to secure Klopp’s services following his departure from Liverpool.

Kosicke said, “Maybe at some point he’ll say he needs to smell the locker room again. But at the moment he’s very, very happy in his role.”

“Before joining Red Bull, Jürgen could have coached the USA or England. Probably also Germany, if Julian Nagelsmann hadn’t already been there.”

He added, “Even Chelsea and Manchester United inquired, although Jürgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England. These inquiries keep coming.”

“He’s extremely happy with what he’s achieved. And it’s still wonderful to go down in history as one of the few coaches who only managed three clubs and were never fired.”

However, United have made it clear that they made no attempt to lure Klopp to Old Trafford.

United respond to wild Klopp claim

According to Sky Sports, “Manchester United have denied having any contact with Jurgen Klopp’s agent after claims the club made an enquiry about the former Liverpool boss taking over at Old Trafford.”

“An article in Transfermarkt published today, claims both United and Chelsea approached Klopp’s representatives at some point after the German left Anfield.”

Sky further note that Chelsea have also denied Kosicke’s assertions that they tried to snap up Klopp.
