A statement by Jurriën Timber has reportedly caused some stress at Feyenoord, according to the Algemeen Dagblad in an analysis of Quinten Timber’s situation in Rotterdam.
While the club are still struggling with the extension of the midfielder’s contract, his brother was asked about the negotiations during the Dutch national team’s training camp.
“Another year at Feyenoord would be nice, wouldn’t it?” the Arsenal defender said. Although that idea doesn’t sound too bad, given the former captain’s skills, if Quinten Timber takes that comment literally, it would spell the worst-case scenario for Feyenoord.
If Timber doesn’t renew his contract and plays for Feyenoord for another year, he’ll walk away for free. The Rotterdam side will want to avoid that at all costs.
Feyenoord are reportedly still seriously considering a possible free transfer for Timber. However, the Rotterdam club wants to dedicate the coming months entirely to preventing this scenario.
A bid from Bayer Leverkusen was rejected this summer on sporting grounds. Feyenoord hope to still receive 12 to 15 million euros for Timber through an extension.
