Activity continues behind the scenes at FC Barcelona to strengthen the squad in the summer transfer window.

A new centre-forward and a left-footed centre-back are the top priorities for the sporting management, led by director Deco. In addition, work is also being done to extend Marcus Rashford’s stay beyond this season.

Now, though, according to SPORT, Barça are also looking at the market for a new goalkeeper and have made a move for one of their targets.

Deco holds talks with Alex Remiro’s agent

Indeed, as per the report, Deco has held a meeting with the representatives of Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro, identifying him as a potential market opportunity for Barcelona.

Despite the goalkeeping situation appearing largely settled following the strategic signing of Joan Garcia last summer, the Blaugrana remain active in the market, seeking a goalkeeper capable of complementing the 24-year-old.

In this regard, Deco recently met with Remiro’s representatives to assess his contractual situation and evaluate the feasibility of a potential transfer.

The 30-year-old is currently an undisputed starter at Real Sociedad and has attracted interest from clubs abroad.

Remiro has been on Barcelona’s radar for some time, with the sporting department having monitored his development in previous seasons. His release clause, set at €70 million, had until now been a significant obstacle.

However, his contractual situation now works in Barcelona’s favour. He will enter the final year of his contract in the summer. And Real Sociedad could be compelled to negotiate for a considerably lower fee, to avoid the possibility of him leaving on a free transfer in 2027.

Backup to Joan Garcia

At present, strengthening the goalkeeping position is not a priority at Barcelona, as the arrival of Garcia has addressed the uncertainties that existed last summer.

Nevertheless, the Catalans do not rule out making an additional signing to replace Wojciech Szczesny as the second-choice shot-stopper.

So, if Remiro were to join, he would assume a secondary role, providing rest for Garcia when required. For now, though, no final decisions have been made.

Any potential move would also depend on the club’s financial situation. Barcelona are hopeful of operating under the 1:1 financial rule and functioning with greater flexibility in the upcoming summer transfer window.
