Despite Barcelona’s best efforts, the club were not able to obtain the necessary license to return to Camp Nou this weekend.

As a result, the Catalans are set to take on Valencia on Sunday at Estadi Johan Cruyff, which is set to make history for becoming the lowest-capacity stadium to ever host a La Liga game this century.

Needless to say, this will have a significant financial bearing on Barcelona, who are hoping to return to Camp Nou as soon as possible.

Where will Barcelona play Getafe?

According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona are not too confident about returning to Camp Nou by the time they take on Getafe on September 21, much to the disappointment of fans.

Barcelona confirmed yesterday that their opening game against Valencia will be played at Estadi Johan Cruyff. But it won’t be the only game to be played at Sant Despi, it seems, as Getafe, too, may have to play in the 6,000-seater stadium.

This serves as a massive blow for Barcelona, who are facing the financial strain of not having their old stadium up and running.

The report adds that the Blaugrana are eyeing a return to Camp Nou at the end of this month, when they take on Real Sociedad.

Playing against the Txuri-Urdin at Camp Nou appears to be a more realistic target as Barça look to work around the clock to obtain the necessary licenses.

The Sociedad game at Camp Nou will also serve as a litmus test for the stadium, with UEFA likely to keep a close eye on the stadium’s infrastructure and match-readiness.

Barcelona, after all, are expected to take on defending champions Paris Saint-Germain on October 1, in what will be the club’s first home game in the Champions League this season.

If Camp Nou disappoints against Sociedad, it is likely that Barcelona will have to look for other alternatives, though PSG have been lobbying hard for the game to be played at the iconic stadium.
