In a surprising twist of fortune, Marc Casado’s days at Barcelona could be numbered as the club are now listening to offers for the young midfielder.

A key reason why Barcelona are even entertaining the idea of letting one of Spain’s most promising young midfielders is because the club already have another gem in the form of Marc Bernal.

The young sensation is coming on the back of a long injury layoff. But he is expected to receive medical clearance soon, with the club eyeing a September return.

Deco holds meeting with Bernal’s agent

According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona sporting director Deco recently met with the representatives of Marc Bernal in an important meeting.

The purpose of the meeting was to reassure the player of the club’s faith in him and to finalise the details of his renewal.

The new contract is essentially ready and should be announced shortly, with Bernal set to be handed a spot in the first-team squad as long as registrations permit.

Barcelona’s big plans for Bernal

The Blaugrana see Bernal as their long-term pivot. Despite receiving multiple approaches from top European clubs, even while he was sidelined with a serious knee injury last season, Barcelona have made it clear the midfielder is untouchable.

Only loan deals have been considered, though the club’s preference is to keep him around Hansi Flick’s squad to gradually build up his rhythm, much like they managed Gavi after his return from injury.

Barcelona are preparing to insert a staggering €1 billion release clause in Bernal’s new deal, which could go a long way in helping the club secure the player’s long-term future at the club.
