Manchester United are reportedly among the clubs interested in the services of Botafogo midfielder Danilo dos Santos de Oliveira.

The Red Devils are believed to be on the cusp of signing Atalanta stalwart Ederson, a profile they have been chasing for years. The 26-year-old has already agreed personal terms with INEOS, while talks between United and the Italian club are at an advanced stage.

Nevertheless, Ederson might not be the last Brazilian midfielder to land at Carrington this summer.

Man United reflecting on former Forest star Danilo

Earlier this month, Man Utd bid farewell to Casemiro, whose departure will leave a major gap in an already thin midfield department. Moreover, the club is hoping to attract offers for the unconvincing Manuel Ugarte.

Therefore, the Premier League giants could sign three new midfielders this summer to collaborate with Kobbie Mainoo.

Elliot Anderson remains the club’s top target, but between Nottingham Forest’s €120 million price tag and Manchester City’s desire to sign him, United are facing a daunting task.

Hence, Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell continue to observe alternative tracks, and one of them could lead to Danilo, who already has EPL experience.

According to Goal Brazil journalist Valentin Furlan, Man Utd are among several clubs who expressed their interest in the 25-year-old, who could be on his way out of Botafogo.

“EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United, Milan, Atalanta and Zenit have inquired with Botafogo about Danilo,” posted the transfer market insider on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

“The Midfielder is on the radar of Palmeiras and Flamengo. His priority would be to return to Europe.”

Danilo’s background & EPL experience

The Salvador native rose through the ranks of Palmeiras, becoming a key figure at the club. He then joined Nottingham Forest on a €23 million deal in January of 2023.

The midfielder spent two and a half years at the City Ground. He initially cemented himself as a key starter, but his role eventually decreased under Nuno Espirito Santo, especially after breaking his ankle at the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

Therefore, Forest decided to cash in on his services and focus on other midfielders, mainly Anderson and Ibrahim Sangare.

Neverthless, Danilo’s impressive displays at Botafogo revived interest in his services. His contract with the Brazilian club is valid until June 2029, and Transfermarkt estimates his value at €32 million (nearly £28m).

The 25-year-old excels at winning back possession and driving the ball forward. He usually operates as a box-to-midfielder, but can also sit in a deeper role if required.
