Just in: Ornstein drops huge update on Lewis Hall to Man Utd | OneFootball

Manchester United fans hoping for the arrival of Lewis Hall have received dire news on Wednesday afternoon, courtesy of David Ornstein.

After buying Andre Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, the Red Devils were expected to bring in a third midfielder.

While this scenario cannot be entirely ruled out, it appears that the management is now more inclined to buy a left-back instead.

Ornstein tips Lewis Hall to stay at Newcastle

Since the start of the summer, Hall has been identified as Man Utd’s primary target for the left-back role.

The Red Devils view the 21-year-old as Luke Shaw’s long-term replacement. And in the meantime, he would offer his support to his older compatriot, who doesn’t have a natural understudy in the first team.

Recent reports also claimed that Hall is ‘unhappy’ with his status at St. James’ Park. However, Ornstein still expects the Chelsea youth product to remain with the Magpies, especially following the recent managerial change

“I don’t expect [him] to be coming to Manchester United,” said the prolific journalist during his appearance on The Athletic FC Podcast.

“There’s clearly some interest, but Newcastle will be determined to keep a hold of him, probably even more so following the departure of Eddie Howe, and let’s see that they would even like to time down to a new contract.” 

How will this development impact Man Utd’s summer plans?

If United’s main objective is to sign a new left-back, they should, by all means, find one before the end of the market.

Hall might be the top target, but clubs often have to readjust and settle for alternative profiles, as evidenced by Man Utd’s midfielders pursuit.

The Red Devils wanted Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, but the Englishman ended up signing for their crosstown rivals Man City, while the latter moved to Tottenham.

In recent hours, Fulham and USMNT left-back Antonee Robinson has been mentioned as a potential target for United, so it remains to be seen how this track could develop into a concrete possibility in the coming days.
