Juventus defender and versatile Italian international Andrea Cambiaso has addressed persistent rumours linking him with a move to Premier League giants Manchester City, stating he was “losing his temper” over the speculation which he insists was never close to materialising.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Cambiaso confirmed that while interest from Pep Guardiola’s side was present, he was never on the verge of quitting the Bianconeri.

Flattered by Manchester City interest but transfer wasn’t close

Cambiaso confirmed that links to the reigning Premier League champions surfaced early in the year, but he quickly dismissed the notion that a transfer was imminent:

“Was I close to packing my bags for Manchester, home of City? There was interest last January, nothing more. I was not close to saying goodbye to Juventus, I made no proclamations in this regard, on the contrary. Flattered, yes, other stories no.”

Cambiaso denies distraction

The 25-year-old also spoke about the frustration of constantly seeing his name associated with an England move, particularly as he went through a dip in his form. He stressed that while the noise was annoying, it did not impact his focus or performance for Juventus:

“They were annoying, but our world is like that and you can’t do anything about it. It was clear that it wasn’t the motivation for my dip in form, but perhaps if I had been on the other side I would have thought so too. Oh well.”

The highly-rated defender, often described as a ‘3D player’ for his versatility across the pitch, affirmed his commitment to Juventus and the Scudetto race under coach Luciano Spalletti.
