Juventus beat Barcelona to land one of their late signings

Nick Woltemade was one of the late signings Juventus managed to complete before the transfer window closed, with the German striker also doing his best to make the move happen. His determination played an important role as the Bianconeri worked to secure his services before the deadline.

Woltemade joined Newcastle United last season, but he appeared to have lost his place in their team. That situation opened the door for Juventus to make a move for the striker and add him to their squad.

Juventus won the race for Woltemade

The Bianconeri believe Woltemade possesses characteristics that are important to how their manager wants his team to play. As a result, they were keen to bring him in and believe he can make a positive contribution to their plans.

Juve are confident that the German will do well in Turin, although they came close to losing him to Barcelona during a summer in which he was almost certain to change clubs. The Catalan side were also searching for a striker and could have provided serious competition for his signature.

Tuttomercatoweb claims that before Woltemade completed his move to the Allianz Stadium, he was offered to Barcelona. The Spanish side were considering their options in attack and could have decided to pursue the German before Juventus moved closer to completing their agreement.

However, as Juve advanced in negotiations to sign Woltemade, Barcelona opted to focus on signing Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal. That decision allowed the Bianconeri to move ahead of their competition and ultimately win the race for the striker’s signature.

Woltemade faces pressure to deliver

Woltemade will now have to prove that he was worth the effort Juventus made to bring him to Turin. Expectations will be high, particularly because the club made a significant decision by choosing him as part of their plans for the attack.

He cannot afford to fail to make an impact, especially if Jonathan David performs well on loan at Atletico Madrid. Woltemade replaced the Canadian in Juventus’ squad, meaning his performances will inevitably be compared with those of the player who left.

The German therefore has an important opportunity ahead of him. Juventus believe he has the qualities needed for their system, but he must now demonstrate those qualities on the pitch and justify the confidence the Bianconeri showed in signing him.
