Juventus eye Liverpool duo as potential free signings next summer

Liverpool veterans Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk are being monitored by Juventus as free-agent prospects for next summer.

As reported by Tuttosport, Alisson is no stranger to Juve head coach Luciano Spalletti and technical director Frederic Massara, who know him from their time at Roma. The Bianconeri are confident in his playing and leadership ability and believe they could entice him to move to Turin at reduced wages; he’s earning a gross annual wage of £13 million at Anfield.

As for Van Dijk, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juve were in attendance during the Netherlands’ game against Germany in Amsterdam to monitor him and Sunderland forward Brian Brobbey. The veteran defender is viewed by The Old Lady as an ideal leader at the back, especially if Gleison Bremer were to be moved on in the near future, but they’ll want to assess his physical fitness before making a formal approach in the coming months.

Going back to basics

Juve used to be masters of the free agent market. But in recent years that trend has been in steep decline. This season, they only signed Zeki Çelik on free. Last season, Jonathan David was the sole Bosman arrival, while Paul Pogba and Ángel Di María arrived for free four summers ago.

The current financial reality of European football makes it that much more imperative for Juve to master the art of free signings again. They are targeting the right players, and if they manage to land many of their free-agent targets next summer, they could seriously contend for the Serie A crown again.
