Juventus is keeping an eye on injured Liverpool star

Giovanni Leoni is one of the finest Italian talents currently playing outside Serie A, and Juventus wants to sign him despite the defender having spent around a year on the sidelines.

Liverpool added Leoni to its squad a year ago, but he tore his ACL during his first match for the club. The defender has therefore spent the last year working towards a return to full fitness, although his recovery has prevented him from making a significant contribution at Anfield.

Leoni still has an important future at Liverpool, but the Reds have several defenders in their squad. As a result, he may not be guaranteed regular playing time when he returns to full fitness.

Juventus continues to monitor Leoni

Liverpool is also a major club that does not need to sell for financial reasons. It can therefore retain Leoni unless it decides that a transfer is in the club’s best interests.

That has not stopped Juventus from pursuing the defender. A report from Tuttojuve reveals that the Bianconeri have added Leoni to their list of transfer targets and continue to monitor his situation.

Leoni is regarded as one of the best Italian talents available at present. Since making his professional debut, he has demonstrated an ability that appears well beyond his age, which has helped him attract interest despite his lengthy absence.

Leoni could return to Italy

Liverpool knows the quality of the player it has, so Juventus would face a difficult task if it attempted to sign him. The English club is likely to remain cautious while Leoni completes his recovery and works towards establishing himself in the first team.

However, the defender could be open to a return to Italy if Liverpool cannot guarantee him sufficient playing time. Juventus is the biggest club in the country, and that status could make a move to Turin appealing.

If the possibility of leaving Anfield emerges, the Bianconeri will likely attempt to bring Leoni into their squad. Juventus sees him as a player capable of strengthening its defence while also becoming an important part of the club’s future.
