Legendary former Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero believes that Inter Milan fully deserve the Serie A title this season.

Del Piero spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

Inter are on the verge of clinching the twentieth Serie A title in their history.

The Nerazzurri have the chance to do so in the derby against AC Milan this evening.

That would be the first time that either side has done so in the derby.

But even if Inter do not beat the Rossoneri this evening, there will be more chances for them to wrap up the title, mathematically speaking.

Alessandro Del Piero: Inter Deserved Serie A Title Winners

The Nerazzurri have had to fend off competition at times this season, from Milan as well as Juventus.

But like Napoli last time around, there has been a big gap between Inter and their rivals.

That gap has been in terms of consistency as much as anything.

Both the Rossoneri and the Bianconeri have had periods of outstanding form. But they have also dropped off during certain periods.

Inter, on the other hand, have been relentless.

Whilst there have been a few dropped points here and there, the Nerazzurri have always bounced back and gotten back to winning ways.

Looking at this evening’s derby, former Juventus striker Del Piero remarked that “I have a couple friends who are Inter fans, and a couple who are Milan fans.”

“It’s an incredible thing for them to experience. But I always tell them, think of the Juventus fans as well!”

“For Milan it would be tough to have Inter clinch the Scudetto playing in a derby that’s at home for them,” Del Piero noted.

“But Inter fully deserve to win the title,” he went on.

“Over the course of the season, they’ve proven to be the strongest team in the league.”

“But then, the beauty of matches like this is that just when everything seems clear, something unexpected can happen,” the former Italy international added.
