Juventus are already set to purchase loanee Lois Openda for a full €45m fee, as the option to buy clause in his contract is more like a very easily achievable obligation to buy according to reports on Saturday morning.

Why Juventus are expected to buy Openda for €45.5m

Juventus confirmed the signing of Openda on loan with an option to buy from RB Leipzig on the final day of the summer transfer window. The Bianconeri agreed to pay a fee of €3.3m to bring Openda in on loan for the season, with an option to buy clause set at €40.6m plus €1.7m in add-ons, for a total package of €45.5m.

According to reports from Tuttosport and La Gazzetta dello Sport, that option to buy clause is more like an easily achievable obligation.

In fact, Juventus will be obliged to purchase Openda for the full €45.5m package as long as they avoid relegation to Serie B at the end of the 2025-26 campaign, according to Saturday’s reports.

Tuttosport adds that Juventus’s deal for Openda was always intended to be a permanent transfer, effectively with favourable payment terms for the Old Lady.

There have been some initial concerns surrounding the Belgian on the pitch in Serie A in the early stages of his Bianconeri career, however.

The Belgium international is without a goal this season from eight appearances across all competitions this season, including his two Bundesliga appearances prior to joining Juventus.

Openda has, in fact, only played for 204 minutes across all competitions, starting just twice, since joining Juve this summer. As Tuttosport puts it, he remains stuck behind Dusan Vlahovic and the ‘disappointing’ Jonathan David in the Bianconeri pecking order.
