This summer, Di Gregorio joined Juventus.

The 27-year-old is the player who the Bianconeri decided to make their new long-term starting goalkeeper, as they parted ways with Wojcech Szcesny.

Di Gregorio made the move to Turin after four seasons at Monza.

The Italian had spent two seasons on loan with the Brianzoli from Inter initially. He was with them in Serie B during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.

Then, in the summer of 2022, Inter sold Di Gregorio to Monza on a permanent basis.

Having helped the Lombard team to promotion in his second season at the club, Di Gregorio really made the step up to the top flight along with his teammates.

Di Gregorio was one of Serie A’s outstanding keepers over the last couple seasons.

Therefore, it was not too much of a surprise to see Juventus invest in the 27-year-old shot-stopper.

The move to Juventus will have carried some mixed emotions for Di Gregorio.

The 27-year-old is not just an Inter youth academy graduate. He is also a lifelong Nerazzurri fan from the city of Milan.

Therefore, Di Gregorio will have certainly hoped to have one day gotten his chance at Inter.

But that never happened. Inter never gave the young keeper a serious chance in their first team.

Rather, it was Romanian Andrei Radu who Inter gave a shot as a backup to Samir Handanovic, whilst Di Gregorio was out on loan.

Radu certainly did not manage to cement a place for himself as a future starter at Inter.

But Di Gregorio developed, and eventually blossomed, in Monza.

And so when the call came from Juventus, it may have been bittersweet for the lifelong Inter supporter. The Bianconeri move represented a switch to Inter’s bitter Derby d’Italia rivals.

But of course, Di Gregorio is also a professional. And the move to Juventus represented an enormous opportunity and step in his career.

Now, the 27-year-olds will have his sights on the Serie A title.

If Juventus can dethrone Inter at the top of the pile in the Italian top flight, it would certainly represent a certain sense of vindication for Di Gregorio, who never got his chance at Inter.
