It is no secret that Juventus admire Jadon Sancho. They failed to sign him last summer, and they are back again, pushing hard for him.
Manchester United are reportedly open to letting the winger leave, with Caught Offside claiming that €26 million (£22 million) would be enough to sanction his Old Trafford exit.
Although Juventus are smitten by United’s number 25, their tricky financial situation makes it difficult to sanction his swoop.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed reports that the Old Lady were keen to sell Nico Gonzalez to fund the deal. However, a new proposal may bring it to fruition without that sale.
On Monday, reports emerged suggesting that Juventus are contemplating a move that would see them offer Douglas Luiz (or possibly their striker, Dusan Vlahovic) in a swap deal for Sancho.
Luiz is a player United have been long linked with. In January, it was reported that the Manchester side were open to signing him, with the Turin-based outfit then keen to offload the midfielder.
However, before INEOS could act on the Luiz-Sancho swap idea, it appears the proposal may be hijacked before it is even tabled.
According to Tuttosport, Crystal Palace are seriously interested in Luiz.
The Italian outlet claims their interest is so strong that a €25 million (£21 million) bid could be enough to secure the former Aston Villa midfielder’s signature.
While that report paints the FA Cup winners as favourites to land the Brazilian, United will still draw hope from their transfer interest.
Encouragingly for United, Juventus are said to be hesitant about quickly selling the midfielder to Palace, as they believe other Premier League clubs may also enter the race for the 27-year-old.
As a result, they could delay responding to Palace’s approach, which may provide the time needed to revisit the Luiz-Sancho swap route.
What Juventus ultimately decide is not up to INEOS.
However, the ball is firmly in their court. If they genuinely want Sancho, it is up to them to convince United.
Whether through a swap deal or a cash offer, United are expected to welcome negotiations, with Sancho likely to leave Old Trafford as Ruben Amorim looks to reshape his squad.
