Douglas Luiz has climbed back to Juventus’s starting XI and the Brazil squad after two turbulent years, including a Nottingham Forest loan.

He returned to Turin after missing the World Cup, with three years left on his deal. Under Luciano Spalletti he has started all five Serie A matches and one in the Europa League, answering a pre-season demand to move the ball quicker. Injuries to Manuel Locatelli and Khéphren Thuram have opened the door.

The upturn has brought his first Brazil call since the month after he left Villa. Spalletti has praised his physical power, willingness to run and cover for team-mates, and his short and long passing.
