Juventus are closing in on a move for Jhon Lucumi this summer after the defender ignored interest from other clubs to wait for the Bianconeri. However, there is no guarantee that they will complete a deal for him during this transfer window.
The Colombian has been at Bologna since 2022 and has developed into one of the top defenders in their squad. With only a year remaining on his contract, Lucumi is looking for a new challenge, and Juventus have been aware that they are the only club he wants to join.
The men at the Allianz Stadium have been working on a move for Lucumi in recent weeks, with the defender’s preference giving them confidence that an agreement can be reached. Juventus see him as an ideal addition to their squad and will continue trying to complete the transfer.
However, the Bianconeri also know they need an alternative in case negotiations fail. Lucumi’s contract situation could help Juventus, but Bologna will still have their own expectations regarding a potential deal for one of their important players.
The uncertainty surrounding the transfer means Juventus must continue exploring other options. They have already identified another defender who could become their preferred target if they are unable to reach an agreement for Lucumi.
According to Sport Mediaset, West Ham’s Jean Clair Todibo is the other defender Juventus could target during this transfer window if their pursuit of Lucumi breaks down.
Juventus have admired the Frenchman since his time at Nice in France. Todibo eventually moved to England after the Bianconeri failed to step up their interest in signing him, but their admiration for the defender has remained.
West Ham were relegated last season, and Todibo is now looking for a way out. Juventus could provide him with that opportunity if their move for Lucumi does not materialise.
For now, Lucumi remains the preferred option, particularly because of his desire to join Juventus. However, Todibo gives the Bianconeri a strong alternative and ensures they have another route to strengthen their defence if negotiations with Bologna fail.
