Full-back depth has been a major issue for Hansi Flick, with both first-choice options, Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde somehow being injured at the same time for two seasons in a row. The only positive this time around is the fact that they have Joao Cancelo on loan.

Thus, being interested in a new defender who can play on either flank could be a smart move by Barcelona. Yesterday, we covered a story revealing the Catalan club’s interested in talented Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso.

Now, according to SPORT, Juve already have a firm valuation in mind. The Serie A club want around €50 million for the 26-year-old and won’t make it cheap if some club is indeed interested in signing him.

From a Barcelona perspective, the interest is easy to understand. Cambiaso is not just a left-back. He can operate on both sides, has the energy to play high, and looks like the sort of flexible defender Hansi Flick would value in a squad that has already been exposed by injuries in the wide areas.

His current season also explains why Juventus are asking for so much. Cambiaso has made 39 appearances in all competitions in 2025-26, scoring three goals, and he remains tied to Juve until 2029.

This is the problem for Barcelona. €50 million is a major outlay for a player who would improve the squad, but not in the glamorous headline way of a striker or elite centre-back. For a club still balancing every market move carefully, that is a serious decision.

Barcelona need more reliability and versatility at full-back, and Cambiaso looks like one of the cleaner tactical fits available. But the asking price makes this operation unfeasible.

The club would be better off signing Cancelo for a cheaper price and use him in rotation with Balde, Kounde and Xavi Espart. Let’s wait and see how things play out.
